Top 10 List- Emerson Rules

Tomorrow we will hold our beginning of the year discipline assemblies.  Generally, I discuss with children a variety of rules that will help keep their focus on learning and keep everyone safe.

Here is my top 10 list of Emerson's Most Important Rules:
10. Use words to express yourself to say when something is wrong (i.e. "I don't like it when you play like that.")
9. Walk away from potential conflicts.  This is a "Super 8" rule.
8.  Walk in the hallways; don't run.
7. Focus on a productive activity in class, recess or even when standing in line.
6. Keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself.  This is one of our Behavior Standards.
5. Don't bring distractions (toys, electronics) to school (if you have a phone, no one should ever know but you!)
4. Be here every day on time.  If you get sick, make up your absence on a Saturday. Parents need to send a note or call regarding every absence within 3 days.
3. Listen to and follow the directions of all staff.
2. Be generous and kind.
1. Show respect to everyone.

We will review the Education Code 48900 as well to make students aware of what they can do to avoid suspensions or an expulsion.

The State Bar has a great online publication, Kids and the Law, that provides guidance regarding California laws for minors
